Cowabunga! Magic: The Gathering Meets the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The sewers of New York are opening up to the Multiverse! In the latest Magic: The Gathering debut, Wizards of the Coast officially unveiled the highly anticipated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) set. This collaboration spans the entire history of the franchise, from its gritty black-and-white comic beginnings to its vibrant arcade and modern incarnations.

Whether you're a lifelong fan of the Heroes in a Half Shell or a Magic veteran looking for new mechanics, this set promises to "raise some shell" when it hits shelves on March 6, 2026.

The Turtle Power Lineup

The set features everyone’s favorite brothers—Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo—available in various rarities including Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Mythic. Each turtle reflects their iconic personality through gameplay:

  • Raphael: The aggressive muscle of the team with a tough shell but warmth for his brothers.
  • Donatello: The resident tinkerer and scientific expert who relies on technical expertise.
  • Leonardo: The disciplined leader with steely resolve and matching katanas.
  • Michelangelo: The fun-loving heart who brings the pizza and skateboarding vibes.

They aren’t alone, either. Iconic allies like April O’Neil, Splinter, and Casey Jones join the fray to take on threats like Krang, his Utrom forces, and the fearsome Shredder.

New and Returning Mechanics

The TMNT set introduces flavor-rich mechanics that capture the essence of being a mutant ninja:

  • Sneak (New): An alternate casting cost that allows you to swap an unblocked attacker for a card in your hand. This mechanic now appears on instants and sorceries in addition to creatures.
  • Disappear (New): A condition that checks if a permanent left your battlefield this turn. If met, characters like Krang and Shredder can cast exiled cards for free.
  • Mutagen Tokens (New): Artifact tokens that can be sacrificed to put a +1/+1 counter on a creature, capturing the power of mutation.
  • Alliance (Returning): Triggers whenever another creature enters the battlefield under your control, rewarding you for bringing the team together.
  • Classes (Returning): Enchantment subtypes that level up to unlock more powerful abilities, such as the "Ninja Teen" class.

Card Treatments & Collector Highlights

Wizards is pulling out all the stops for the visual presentation of this set. Here are the standout treatments to look for:

Signature Artist Series: Kevin Eastman

In a tribute to the franchise's roots, co-creator Kevin Eastman has illustrated a special collection of borderless "Headliner" cards in his iconic black-and-white style.

Sewer Frames & Silhouettes

  • Sewer Frames: Showcases the Turtles in their natural habitat within the card frame.
  • Borderless Silhouettes: Moody, dramatic art pieces that capture the stealthy nature of the ninjas in the shadows.

Source Material Cards

These are reprints of powerful existing Magic cards featuring new artwork from iconic TMNT comic covers, including The Last Ronin and original TMNT issues.
