The Eclipse Approaches: Lorwyn Eclipsed Commander Deck Previews

The duality of Lorwyn and Shadowmoor has finally returned to the Commander table. Today’s official reveal video, hosted by Rachel Weekes, provided a deep dive into the two new preconstructed decks and a selection of powerhouse cards from the main set that are destined for the 99 of many Commander decks.

Dance of the Elements (5-Color)

This deck captures the whimsical yet volatile nature of Lorwyn’s primal forces, built for players who love high-synergy tribal play and "enter-the-battlefield" (ETB) value.

  • The Commander: Ashling, the Limitless [01:21] Ashling gives all Elemental spells Evoke and creates temporary token copies of elementals you sacrifice. If you can pay the full WUBRG cost, you can keep those tokens permanently, doubling your value for a fraction of the mana.

  • Key New Cards & Mechanics:

    • Mass of Mysteries: A secondary commander that grants Myriad to your Elementals, allowing you to triple your ETB effects during combat [02:46].

    • The Encore Cycle: Features Incarnations like Belonging (White) and Jubilation (Green) that can be "Encored" from the graveyard to create a hasty token for each opponent [03:42].

    • Springleaf Parade: An enchantment that generates Changeling tokens and turns all creature tokens into mana-producing "Birds of Paradise" [05:51].

Blight Curse (Jund)

Representing the Shadowmoor side of the coin, this deck weaponizes the -1/-1 counter as a lethal resource for card draw and attrition.

  • The Commander: Auntie Ool, Cursewretch [13:25] Auntie Ool draws you a card whenever a counter is placed on your creatures and drains life from opponents whenever a counter is placed on theirs.

  • Key New Cards:

    • The Reaper, King No More: A legendary Scarecrow that steals opponents' creatures if they die with -1/-1 counters on them [15:01].

    • Eventide's Shadow: A high-risk card that lets you remove counters from any permanent—including opposing Planeswalkers' loyalty—to draw cards [20:16].

    • Village Pillagers: A goblin with Wither that generates treasures whenever creatures with counters on them die [17:14].

Main Set Highlights for Commander

The showcase concluded with a reveal of several heavy hitters from the main Lorwyn Eclipsed set that will be highly sought after for various archetypes:

  • Bloodline Bidding [28:47]: An 8-mana sorcery with Convoke that returns all creature cards of a chosen type from your graveyard to the battlefield. It’s a potentially one-sided mass resurrection spell.

  • Collective Inferno [29:01]: A damage-doubling enchantment that also features Convoke. It specifically doubles damage dealt by one chosen creature type, making it a slam-dunk for Goblin or Elemental decks.

  • Wishfulness [30:43]: A new Elemental with Evoke. Depending on the mana spent, it can exile artifacts/enchantments, provide card advantage, or provide both on a massive 6/5 body.

  • Grub, Storied Matriarch // Grub, Notorious Auntie [31:54]: A double-faced legend. The Lorwyn side rescues Goblins from the graveyard, while the Shadowmoor side can "blight" creatures to create tapped and attacking token copies of them.

  • Doran, Besieged by Time [33:08]: A fan-favorite returns! This 0/5 reduces the cost of high-toughness creatures and buffs their power in combat by the difference between their power and toughness.
